He
plays Joe Byrne
This film is based on "Our Sunshine" by Robert Drew,
a novel based on the life of Australian bushranger and icon, Ned Kelly. It tells
of his life as a bushranger in north-west Victoria, where he lived all his life.
He, his brother Dan, and two other men, Steve Hart and Joe Byrne, formed a gang.
These four robbed a bank and hijacked an entire town for 3 days. They killed three
policemen who were hunting them. They then took over a pub in Glenrowan, where
they basically held a party, waiting for a train full of police to derail at a
part of the track that they tore up. However a school teacher warned the train,
so the gang and all the others in the pub ended up in a shootout with scores of
policemen.

Orlando Bloom Bio:
Orlando (Orli, OB) Bloom, was born, January 13th, 1977 in Canterbury, England. Named after his mothers favorite hero/heroine from Virginia Woolfs Novel of the same name, realized early on his love for acting. Orlandos father, Harry Bloom, passed away when Orlando was just four years old. Harry, ( so strong in his beliefs that he was jailed for them) was known for his role in antiapartheid circles in South Africa, working along side Nelson Mandela, and his novel Episode In The Transvaal. Orlando speaks well of his father saying:
Harry was a great man who died when I was four, and it was as if hed done his job and left the world
It seems, that Harry passed along a strong scene of passion into his children, for Orlando, and his Sister, Samantha, two years his senior are both actors.
Orlando, realizing that his favorite character Superman (played by Christopher Reeves) was an actor, knew then that that was what he wanted to do. Intending to make his dreams a reality, Orlando attended the, National Youth Theatre, for two years. Then received a scholarship to attended the British American Drama Academy, for another two years.
Orlando then received a part in the acclaimed movie Wilde where he played the character Rent boy with the one line, Looking for someone? This introduction in Hollywood caused Orlando to be in demand. But his true passion was theatre, so Orlando attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for 3 years. He appeared in such plays as "The Seagull", "Twelfth Night", and "Trojan Women" to name a few.
After a freak accident of falling of a drain pipe three stories high, Orlando was not expected to walk again. But later walked out of the hospital 12 days later. To this day, Orlando calls his back his good luck charm.
Maybe this good luck charm helped him land a roll with Peter Jackson epic trilogy Lord of the Rings. He was first asked to addiction for the part of Faramir, (who doesnt appear until The Two Towers) but the part was not made available to him. So he was later asked to make a taped audition for the part of Legolas. Orlandos response:
Yeah, Absofuckinglutely!
Two days before graduating from Guildhall, Orlando received a phone call saying that he earned the part. Orlando screamed the place down
18 months in New Zealand, Orlando experienced many things. Such the like of his new favorite hobbies: Surfing, Snowboarding, Sky-diving, and Bungee Jumping. Orlando even braking a rib, when falling off a horse during a fight stunt. If not already known, Orlando is very accident prone. Breaking everything from his nose, both his legs, his arm, wrist, finger a toe, and cracking his skull three times.
After the premiere of Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the rings. Orlando has been offered many rolls, such include:
Ridley Scotts, Black Hawk Down, where he plays the young soldier, Private 1st Class Todd Blackburn, (2002)
A commercial for the clothing company GAP directed by Cameron Crowe, who he played love birds along side Kate Becinsale while being chased down the street by ravenous fans.
The short film Deed Poll playing Sean Poll, the ancestral manipulator along side his best friend German actor, Andre Schneider. (2002)
Another short film, yet again along side Andre Schneider called Lullaby of Clubland playing the part of Finney, at club hopping drug user. (2002)
Just recently Orlando completed work on the movie The Kelly Gang in Australia. Orlando plays the part of Joe Byrne, the right hand mad to Ned Kelly, opposite Heath Ledger. The film is stated to be released mid 2003.
As for Orlando next project he is London now filming the title roll in The Calcium Kid, where he plays in this spoof documentary, an amateur boxer, a British milkman with a steel jaw, who is to serve as a replacement boxer in a title bout against the U.S. champ. (2003)
The final two installment of The Lord of the Rings, will be out December 19, 2002, starting off with Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. And followed by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, to be released December 2003.

"As soon as I got to New Zealand, I went bungee jumping. I was standing on the platform for one hour contemplating whether to jump or not".

"My character breaks his back, and I had mentioned I had done that when I was up for the part. Who knows why one actor gets a job and another doesn't? I think it was just good timing that I happened to be there and I had had the experience - I mean, I was lucky." On how he got the part in Black Hawk Down
"The girls have got a bit excited. I spoke to my agent and she says she's wading through the fan mail. We've got bags of it."
"I got to dress up in funny clothes and run around New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 18 months, how bad could that be?"
" I was suggesting to Peter yesterday he should insert some love interest for Gandalf in a later one. He suggested Galadriel... I said, no, I was thinking more of someone like Legolas." -- Sir Ian McKellen
